ПРЕДЛОЖЕНИЯ, НАЧИНАЮЩИЕСЯ С I WISH. Теория.
Особую группу сослагательного наклонения составляют предложения, которые начинаются со слов I wish (Как бы мне хотелось, чтобы...). В таких предложениях высказывается
- либо пожелание относительно изменения ситуации в настоящем (unreal present),
- либо сожаление относительно уже случившегося/не случившегося события в прошлом (unreal past).
- либо пожелания относительно изменения ситуации в будущем (desired future)
I wish в предложениях, относящихся к настоящему.
Предложения, выражающие желания и относящиеся к настоящему времени
Как бы мне хотелось, чтобы... / Жаль, что
- Simple Past
- Past Continuous
- could + infinitive без to
Примеры с переводом:
I wish it was not raining now. – Хотелось бы, чтобы сейчас не шел дождь. (Жаль, что сейчас идет дождь.)
I wish I could speak. French. – Хотелось бы, чтобы я мог говорить по-французски. (Жаль, что я не могу говорить по-французски.)
Обратите внимание!
В подобных предложениях глагол to be употребляется в форме сослагательного наклонения were (был бы, была бы, были бы) для всех лиц единственного и множественного числа.
I wish he were here now. – Хотелось бы, чтобы он был здесь. (Жаль, что его нет здесь сейчас).
I wish I were a pilot. – Как жаль, что я не летчик.
Предложения, начинающиеся с I wish, в которых высказывается желание относительно изменения ситуации в настоящем, соотносятся со (unreal present):
I wish I were lying on the beach at the moment. — If I were lying on the I beach, it would be better. — Как бы мне хотелось лежать сейчас на пляже.
I wish I knew the answer. = If I knew the answer, it would be better. — Как I бы мне хотелось знать ответ.
I wish I could get a better job. = If I could get a better job, it would be / better. — Как бы мне хотелось иметь лучшую работу.
Wish в предложениях, относящихся к прошлому.
Предложения, выражающие сожаление и относящиеся к прошедшему времени , на русский язык переводятся:
Как жаль, что...
Как бы мне хотелось, чтобы...
После wish в подобных предложениях употребляется
- Past Perfect,
- Past Perfect Continuous
I wish you had had time then. – Хотелось бы, чтобы у вас тогда было время. (Жаль, что у вас тогда не было времени.)
I wish I had known that Ann was ill. – Жаль, что я не знал, что Анна была больна.
Предложения, начинающиеся с I wish, в которых высказывается сожаление относительно уже случившегося/не случившегося события в прошлом, соотносятся с :
I wish I had met him earlier. = If I had met him earlier, it would have changed my life. — Как жаль, что я не встретила его раньше. Если бы только я встретила его раньше...
I wish I had been wiser. = If I had been wiser, I wouldn’t have done I such a silly thing. — Как жаль, что я не была мудрее. / Если бы только я была мудрее...
I wish I hadn’t eaten so much chocolate. = If I hadn’t eaten so I much chocolate, I wouldn’t feel ill now. — Как жаль, что я съела так много шоколада. / Если бы только я не съела так много шоколада...
I wish в предложениях, относящихся к будущему.
Если действие, выраженное сказуемым дополнительного придаточного предложения, выражает желание изменить что-либо в настоящем или будущем, то после wish используется
- would + инфинитив
I wish he would stop lying. – Хотелось бы, чтобы он перестал лгать.
Предложения, начинающиеся с I wish, в которых высказывается пожелание относительно будущего, соотносятся с :
I wish he would stop lying. – If he stops lying it will be better.
Предложения с if only.
Вместо слов I wish может употребляться if only . Такие предложения более эмоционально окрашены по сравнению с предложениями с I wish. На русский язык они могут переводиться словами «Если бы только...», «Как бы мне хотелось...».
If only I were rich. – Если бы только я была богатой. = I wish I were rich.

PRESENT SITUATIONS
Use wish+past simple to say you regret or are sorry about a present situation.
Examples:
I wish I had more free time.
I wish Andrew wasn’t/ weren’t so jealous.
I wish I was a famous actor.
PAST SITUATIONS
Use wish+past perfect to say you regret or are sorry about a past situation.
Examples:
I wish I hadn’t called him. (But I did and now I regret it)
I wish we hadn’t seen that film. It was horrible.
WISH+Person/it+would+INFIN
Use wish+person/it+ would+ infinitive to say what you want another person to do or not to do something, often because you are annoyed or when you want something to happen.
Examples:
I wish you would stop crying
I wish it would stop snowing (it’s annoying me)

Некоторые трудности возникают при восприятии придаточного предложения. Конструкция I wish синонимична выражению I want to (я хочу) или I would like to (я хотел бы), но с оттенком сожаления .
Например: Жаль, что я не убедил Анну пойти к доктору.
Эту фразу можно сказать по-другому: Я хотел бы убедить Анну пойти к доктору.
При переводе на английский язык это будет выглядеть так: I wish I convinced Ann to go to the doctor. (I want Annd to go to the doctor, получился, кстати).
Таким образом, надо просто запомнить, что при использовании конструкции I wish необходимо поменять утверждение на отрицание и наоборот .
I wish you didn’t go t here. Жаль, что ты пошел туда.
I wish you went there. Жаль, что ты НЕ пошел туда.
Жаль, что идет снег. I wish it wasn’t snowing.
Марии жаль, что мы НЕ можем пойти в театр. Maria wishes we could go to the theatre.
Уточним, в каком времени употребляется сказуемое в придаточном предложении.
Формы сказуемого в придаточном предложении
- Действие происходит в настоящем или будущем. Используется Past Simple (простое прошедшее время) или Past Continuous, если действие в процессе развития.
- Действие уже произошло. Используется Past Perfect (прошедшее совершенное).
Например:
I wish Alex could do it! Если б только Алекс смог сделать это!
I wish Alex didn’t do it. Жаль, что Алекс делает это.
I wish Alex had done it. Жаль, что Алекс НЕ сделал это.
I wish Alex hadn’t done it. Жаль, что Алекс сделал это.
Конструкция I wish…would выражает крайнюю степень недовольства сложившейся ситуацией.
Например:
I wish he would stop drinking. Жаль, что он никак не бросит пить! (Он пьет, меня это раздражает).
Грамотное употребление конструкции I wish украсит вашу английскую речь.
I wish I were
Отдельного внимания заслуживает конструкция I wish I were , а именно — искажённая форма Past Simple в данном примере (вместо привычного was в первом лице единственном числе мы встречаем were). Правильно ли так говорить? На самом деле, да. Строгая говорит, что нужно вместо I was говорить и писать I were. Видимо, это сложилось так потому, что это позволяет дополнительно подчеркнуть нереальность события . А в разговорном английском языке, а также в и сериалах говорят I wish I was, запомните это!

If only — это более экспрессивная форма конструкции I wish.
MAKING A WISH
(сослагательное наклонение) очень часто встречается как в литературной так и в повседневной речи. В основном, используется с первым лицом (I wish – Мне б хотелось), что, в принципе, логично, т.к. каждый сам отвечает за то, что ему хочется и о чем он сожалеет.
Запомните, что после wish идет прошедшее время , а именно:
Если вы что-то желаете или сожалеете о чем-то в настоящем – в придаточном предложении Past Simple .
Если мечтаете и сожалеете о действиях, совершенных в прошлом – Past Perfect.
А если все ваши мысли устремлены в будущее – в придаточном используйте would/could .
Запомните, что в придаточном предложении вместо WAS с единственным числом, употребляют WERE ! (Хотя в разговорной речи можно услышать и was).
Вспомните песню Бьёнс “If I were a boy” , т.е.:
Следует обратить внимание на то, как может переводиться I wish на русский язык
I WISH YOU WERE HERE — (Как) жаль, что тебя нет здесь.
(Как) мне хотелось бы, чтобы ты был здесь.

К сожалению, тебя нет здесь.
I wish можно заменить на If only … но тогда, предложение будет очень экспрессивным, и указывать на досаду, сожаление: эх, если б только…что ж я…
